Which projects do you take outside Nebraska?

Rocket Roofing General Contractor takes projects in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and South Dakota depending on the scope: storm restoration across several buildings, commercial roofs, and larger residential roofing, siding and gutter jobs. Council Bluffs and the rest of western Iowa next to the metro are everyday work, with a page of their own.

Call (402) 291-8888 with the address and what happened, and you hear on that call whether the project is one we can take and how it would be scheduled.

What does each state require of a roofing contractor?

Every one of these states handles roofing contractors differently, and the rule belongs to the state where the building stands, not where the contractor is based. Whoever you hire should show you the registration your state requires before you sign.

State-level rules for roofing contractors (check each agency for the current version)
StateWhat the state requiresWhat to ask for
NebraskaRegistration with the Nebraska Department of Labor; cities such as Omaha and Lincoln license and permit separately. The NDOL registration and the city permit.
IowaRegistration with the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing for anyone earning $2,000 or more a year from construction. The Iowa contractor registration.
KansasA roofing contractor registration certificate from the Kansas Attorney General, with proof of liability insurance, renewed every year. The Attorney General registration; the AG publishes a directory you can search.
MissouriNo statewide roofing license; cities and counties set their own licensing. The license your city or county requires.
South DakotaNo state roofing license; every contractor holds a contractor’s excise tax license from the Department of Revenue, and cities may license. The excise tax license and any city license.

Are storm insurance claims handled differently across a state line?

Yes, because each state writes its own rules. In Nebraska, the Insured Homeowners Protection Act bars any contractor from rebating or paying your deductible, and our Nebraska claims guide covers it. In Iowa, Iowa Code 103A.71 bars a residential contractor from promising to rebate any part of an insurance deductible and from representing or negotiating with your insurance company on your behalf, and a contract that breaks either rule is void.

In every state, your own policy decides what is covered, the deductible and the deadline to file. Read it, and call your insurer or agent first.

How do you run a project that far from Omaha?

The same way we run one in the metro, with more planning up front. The inspection comes first (a drone inspection where a roof is steep or high), then photographs and a written estimate, then a schedule that tells you the install days before materials are ordered. One company is responsible from the first inspection to the final walk-through, and the manufacturer and workmanship warranties are the ones we give everywhere.

Questions from outside the metro

Do you work in Council Bluffs and western Iowa?

Yes, every week. Council Bluffs is part of the Omaha metro for Rocket Roofing General Contractor, with its own page.

How far from Omaha will you take a project?

It depends on the scope. Larger projects, storm restoration across several buildings and commercial roofs travel further than a single repair. Call (402) 291-8888 and you get a straight answer on the first call.

Can I check a contractor's Kansas registration myself?

Yes. The Kansas Attorney General publishes a roofing registration directory, and the registration certificate has to be current. Ask any contractor for it before you sign.
